STEAM Program and Acting Instructor
Leah earned her B.A. in Elementary Education at Bethel College in North Newton, KS. While there, she worked on many theatrical productions as a costume designer, stage manager, actress, and director. She has experience designing curriculum for the education program at Morry's Camp and researching the development of empathy in preschoolers. Most recently she directed Ladies of the Fly, an adaptation of Lord of the Flies by a local Lawrence playwright. At the Arts Center, Leah is a teacher for the STEAM program and for basic acting.Browse All Classes

Basic Acting I
4th - 8th Grades
In Basic Acting I, students will engage the voice, body, and imagination by participating in theatre exercises and games. Students will learn the fundamentals of stage acting: how to embody a character and build ensemble skills.
Basic Acting II
Intermediate, 4th - 8th
In Basic Acting II, students will engage the voice, body, and imagination by participating in intermediate level theatre exercises and games. Students will expand their knowledge of fundamental stage acting by learning to develop scene and monologue work.
Guerilla Art Spring Break Camp 3rd - 5th Grades

A guerrilla artist inspires others through the creation of temporary, public art in unexpected places. Guerrilla art adds to the cultural landscape of an area and creates a sense of community in a neighborhood. This class introduces students to the methods and ideas behind guerrilla art and help students exercise getting their ideas out into the world. No supplies needed, just bring your sense of humor, curiosity, and inventiveness.
Improv for Kids
Kindergarten - 3rd Grade
Students will learn the basic rules of improvisation by participating in foundational theatrical exercises and games. Working together, students will explore the concept of "Yes,...and!" in a playful and fun environment.
Improv Your Way Through Anything
Need more fun in your life? Want a space where being silly is approved? Come play classic theatre and comedy tv games that tease your brain and challenge your spontaneity. Expand your comfort zone in a class that is the opposite of serious.
Pirates in Training
1st - 5th Grades
Get out your pirate hats, swords, and boots! This class will cover the basics of being a pirate including simple stage combat, fancy pirate dance moves, and pirate vocabulary. That's everything you need to know to join the crew!
