Dance Program Director
Hanan studied at the Kansas City Ballet School and received his B.F.A. from The Juilliard School under the directorship of Lawrence Rhodes. Hanan has danced with various companies including Storling Dance Theater, Mark Morris Dance Group, the Metropolitan Opera (Faust, Don Giovanni, Orfeo ed Euridice, and Nixon in China), Jessica Lang Dance; and as a company member with Ballet Hispanico, Martha Graham Dance Company, and Nimbus Dance works in New York City. Hanan has served as artistic director for the Fine Arts Summer Academy’s Dance Ensemble in Nashville, TN for the past six years. He has taught at the Kansas City Ballet School, the Wharton Music Center, The Culture House, in New Jersey public schools’ after school programs, and in The Juilliard School’s C.L.I.M.B. program.Browse All Classes
Adult Ballet I
Adults/9th Grade & Up / Beginner
The adult dance program offers a variety of techniques for those experiencing dance for the first time as well as those who wish to continue a life-long interest in dance. Instructors specifically organize classes to emphasize progress over perfection and strive to inspire a joy of motion and expression.
5th Grade & Up / Beginner-Intermediate
Three ballet classes a week are recommended at this level; two classes a week are required. Students are encouraged to enroll in Modern I and Jazz II to become well-rounded dancers.
Boy's Ballet I & II
2nd Grade & Up / Beginner-Intermediate
Designed specifically for the male dancer. Focusing on Ballet technique, we will cover fundamental basics and put them into practice traveling, balancing, and jumping. This class is FREE to students enrolled in another dance class. Contact the Front Desk for more information.
Boy's Ballet III
5th Grade & Up / Intermediate-Advanced
Dancers in this class, geared specially for the danseur, are required to attend the 4-5:30pm (Wed) Ballet IV/V course.
7th Grade & Up / Must be placed by the instructor
Modern dance classes transform a dancers approach to movement, by introducing new movements, concepts, and principles. At the Lawrence Arts Center, students learn basic elements of the Limón technique, as well as other fundamental methods. These classes culminate in a performance of The Lorax on March 09-10, 2018. Participation fees are included in tuition. Dancers who are interested in additional solo roles should attend the audition, which will be held on January 6, 2018.
The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet
Ages 6-Adult / All Experience Levels
Still in Kansas, this year’s Nutcracker is all new, and all dance. Remarkably fresh and filled with music and dance, magic, mystery and spectacle, this newly envisioned ballet production is a seasonal favorite. Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Kansas, witness the magic and wonder of Drosselmeyer and Clara defeating the Mouse King and liberating the Nutcracker from his enchanted form.
