Baroque Dance with Joan Stone

Adults/9th Grade & Up

Discover the relatively unknown delights and challenges of Baroque Dance in four masterclasses with Joan Stone, Professor Emerita of Dance at University of Kansas. The first class will focus on the steps, gestures, and spatial patterns that underlie all the dances of the early 1700s. The second will delve into the intrigues and passions of the Minuet. The third and fourth will explore phrases from the lively Bourrée, gliding Courante, noble Sarabande, stop-and-go Gavotte, and sprightly Gigue. About Joan Stone: Joan Stone taught dance history and choreography at KU from 1982 to 2010. Drawn to Baroque Dance, she used Wendy Hilton’s brilliant comprehensive book to teach herself the notation of the period. She then studied with Hilton and began reconstructing and interpreting orks by various dancing masters for concerts, plays, operas, and educational video.
